City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare | Review #19

Hey guys,

Today I am going to be writing the review for the City of Lost Souls. As I said when I wrote the review for the first three books in the series, I have read the Mortal Instruments collection multiple times before and am writing up the reviews in between reading new novels. So on with the review !

Title: City f Lost Souls

Series: The Mortal Instruments

Author: Cassandra Clare

Cover:

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Jace is now a servant of evil, bound for all eternity to Sebastian. Only a small band of Shadowhunters believe he can be saved. To do this they must defy the Clave. And they must act without Clary. For Clary is playing a dangerous game utterly alone. The price of losing is not just her own life, but Jace’s soul. Clary is willing to do anything for Jace, but can she trust him? What price is too high to pay, even for love?”

– The blurb from City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare

Jace is missing. Clary is distraught. And things are not as they seem. Jace is under Sebastians control and Clary will do anything to get him back. Follow Clary as she and her friends venture to Faerie to ask the Seelie Queen for assistance in their search. She agrees, but in return asks Clary to steal two faerie rings from the institute that will allow the wearers to telepathically communicate.

Jace manages to get to Clary and momentarily escape Sebastian’s possession, but is it enough? Will the love between them be enough to save Jace’s soul and the world? Sebastian has a plan: a plan that will destroy the Shadow world as we know it and Clary has to make the biggest decision of her life. She will have to choose between Jace and the world.

This fifth jaw-dropping instalment of The Mortal Instruments had me guessing the whole time. It had a great finale: the intense battle scene left my heart pounding and blood racing. Cassandre Clare, once again, didn’t fail to leave me in awe with the incredibly tense cliff hanger that left me running to my room to grab the next book off the shelf. This book definitely deserved a 4 star rating and I would recommend it to any Shadowhunter Chronicles fan!

Happy reading,

Alysha xx
